BIOGRAPHY OF THE MUSEUM

During the early 1920s, the City of Green Bay local library named Kellogg Library was running out of space for holding a museum named Green Bay Art Club in the basement room. Then, the library decided that it is best to relocate the museum and make sure that the museum will have its building. Later, in 1925, Mr. and Mrs. George Mason of New York City were the sponsor that donated $60,000 to the City of Green Bay to build a museum building. After all the hard work, the museum building was completed, renamed the museum as Neville Public Museum, and the museum is officially opened to the public on July 23, 1927.

In 1986, the Government of Wisconsin formed the “Governing Board,” so the museum has to report to the “County Board Supervisors’ Education and Recreation Committee.” Throughout the years, the museum developed education programs like events and the community strongly supports the museum. An organization named Neville Public Museum Foundation was formed to aid the museum. With the foundation, the museum and the people in the community of Green Bay will support each other, so the museum can be used for educational purposes and help the City of Green Bay for any good purpose in the generation of life. In addition, the Neville Public Museum became a historic site because the museum is almost a hundred years old, and the museum has preserved many ancient cultural items.

Finally, the Neville Public Museum was not only built because Kellogg Library was running out of storage in the basement room. This museum was to preserve local and world artifacts and to dedicate Mayor Arthur C Neville and his wife for their accomplishments to make a difference in the City of Green Bay. Rarely, anyone knows about the museum name, which was named after the late Mayor Neville. Right now, the museum still exists, has no problems with anyone or the community, and the museum will forever represent Brown County and the City of Green Bay, Wisconsin.
